My name is Marie Goodwin. Personal Mycology is a consulting project born from my 20-year-long relationship with unschooling that includes deschooling myself and working with my two (now grown) children on an educational lifestyle outside the mainstream institutionalized school system.

I draw on my personal experience with unschooling to advise others who may wish to start down this same path. You might choose to work with me if you are tired of mainstream education and wish to get started with homeschooling. You might choose me if you need an experienced advisor to help you work through big and small bumps in your learning journey. You might have an academically-oriented home/unschooler and they need help with their efforts to prepare for college and the college admissions process.

I have experience with the process of deschooling as well. In fact, I consider myself a “recovering academic” and enjoy helping other adults learn to see the “shadow” habits that a lifetime of industrialized schooling has formed within each of us.

All of my work, indeed my whole life, is rooted in peaceful and trustful parenting, respect for the unique and intersectional situation of each family, the individual nature of each person’s learning path, the healing power of the natural world, and the impactful effect of apprenticeships & travel on learning and curiosity.
